Dara Singh (born as Deedar Singh Randhawa on 19 November 1928, in Dharmuchak, Amritsar District, Punjab, British India) is an Indian professional wrestler, director, producer, actor, and politician. Dara Singh worked in more than 135+ movies. Dara Singh directed movies like Nanak Dukhiya Sub Sansar (1970), Mera Desh Mera Dharam, (1973), Bhagat Dhanna Jatt (1974), Sawa Lakh Se Ek Ladaun (1976), Dhyanu Bhagat (1978), Bhakti Mein Shakti (1978), and Rustom (1982). He produced movies Bhakti Mein Shakti (1978) and Karan (1994). Dara Singh started acting in 1952 and he was the first sportsman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha (upper house) of India. He was a great undefeated wrestler and then a great actor. Dara Singh is mainly known for his work as Hanuman in the film Bajrangbali (1976). Dara Singh was inducted into the Legacy Category of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018. Dara Singh was born in a Jat Sikh family. Dara Singh father's name was Surat Singh Randhawa who was a farmer and his mother's name was Balwant Kaur Randhawa. Dara Singh had a brother Sardara Singh Randhawa who was a wrestler and actor. Sardara Singh died in 2013. Dara Singh married Bachno Kaur but they got divorced. Later he married Surjit Kaur Aulakh. Dara Singh had 3 son actor Parduman Randhawa from Bachno Kaur and actor Virender Singh Randhawa (Vindu Dara Singh), film producer Amrik Singh Randhawa from Surjit Kaur. Also, Dara Singh had 3 daughters Deepa Singh, Kamal Singh, Loveleen Singh from Surjit Kaur. Dara Singh Bollywood debut with Pehli Jhalak (1954), made Tamil debut with Engal Selvi (1960), made Punjabi debut as Actor, Director and Writer with Nanak Dukhiya Sub Sansar (1970), made Malayalam debut with Mutharamkunnu P.O. (1985), made Telugu debut with Auto Driver (1998), made TV Debut with Ramayan (1987-1988), made debut as a producer with Bhakti Mein Shakti (1978) and made debut as Director with Nanak Dukhiya Sub Sansar (1970). Ata Pata Lapata in 2012 was Dara Singh's last movie in which he acted. Dara Singh was part of the political party Bharatiya Janata Party. In 1996 Dara Singh was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter Hall of Fame. In 2016, Dara was included in the list of India's top prime wrestlers of all time. On seven Apr 2018 WWE inducted him into the WWE Hall of Fame Legacy category of 2018. The World book of records posthumously honored him for his contribution to Wrestling and Hindi movies. Singh was admitted into Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on seven July 2012 because of a massive heart attack. 2 days later, it was confirmed that Dra Singh had brain damage because of a lack of blood flow. Dara Singh was discharged from hospital on eleven July 2012 and died the next day at his house in Mumbai. He was cremated at Juhu crematorium.
