John Prakash Rao Janumala (Born on 14 August 1957 in Kanigiri, Andhra Pradesh, India), mainly known as Johnny Lever is an Indian film actor and one of the most noted comedians in Bollywood cinema. Johnny is one of the 1st stand-up comedians in India. Johnny has received 13 Filmfare Awards nominations in Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Comic Role and has won the award 02 times, for his work in Govinda-Anil Kapoor's Deewana Mastana (1997) and Govinda's Dulhe Raja (1998). He started his career in 1984 and has acted in more than 300 Bollywood films. Johnny also worked in Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Kannada, Tulu, and Marathi films. He also worked in the Pakistani film Love Mein Ghum (2011). Lever was born in a Telugu Christian religion family. Johnny's father's name was Prakash Rao Janumala, an operator in the Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) plant. His mother's name was Karunamma Janumala. He was brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India King's Circle area (Dharavi). Johnny's mother tongue is Telugu. Johnny is also fluent in Hindi, English, Marathi, and Tulu. He is the eldest in the family consisting of 03 sisters and 02 brothers. Johnny completed his studies in Andhra education society English high school till the 7th class but couldn't study further because he belongs to a poor family. He decided to leave school and begins working odd jobs, such as selling pens on the streets of Mumbai, Maharashtra by imitating Hindi movie stars and dancing to the songs of Hindi movies. He also spent his early years in Yakutpura, Hyderabad, India where he learned the unique style of comedy acting. During a Hindustan Lever company function, he mimicked a few senior officers, and from that day on, the Hindustan Lever workers said he was not John Rao but was Johnny Lever. When he later joined the Bollywood industry, he decided to keep the name. He is married to Sujatha Johnrao Janumala and has 02 children, a daughter Jamie Janumala who is a stand-up comedian too, and a son Jesse Johnrao Janumala. His younger brother, Jimmy Moses, is also an actor, comedian, and mimicry artist.
